Hulme End

Hulme End in the Staffordshire Moorlands - Peak District Hulme End is a small but pretty village, situated on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire Peak District border beside the River Manifold.  It is surrounded by beautiful White Peak countryside, characterised by rolling green hills and ancient dry stone walls. Hulme End was once the northern terminus of the Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway, used in the 19th Century primarily for milk trains.  The old station building has now been restored as an interesting Visitor Centre, with souvenirs and displays about the historic line.  One of the engines has also been rebuilt and is open to the public at the site.  Hulme End...

Leek

Leek, a South West Peak District Market Town The bustling market town of Leek is situated on the south-western edge of the Peak District, and is known locally as The Queen of the Moorlands.  It has plenty to offer the visitor, and is set in the most stunning landscape of the Staffordshire Peak District, on the banks of the River Churnet. Litton

Litton Litton has long been overshadowed by its larger neighbour, Tideswell, and was not classed as a village in its own right until the late 18th Century.  Despite that, it is an utterly charming White Peak village, small but perfectly formed. It comprises a cluster of pretty stone cottages around a village green, complete with its own set of ancient stocks.  There is a cosy pub that serves great food, and a shop that was saved from closure by the villagers, who now run it as a co-operative venture based in the village’s old smithy. Longnor

Longnor Longnor is a beautiful little Peak District village in the Staffordshire countryside, situated on a high ridge between Buxton and Hartington. It's a place full of history, with pretty stone houses lining narrow streets. A Place of History Longnor is an ancient place, listed in the Domesday Book of 1086, but there is evidence of a settlement in the area since around 700AD. Matlock

Although not strictly within the boundary of the Peak District National Park, Matlock and its close neighbour Matlock Bath are both beautiful towns with a wealth of sights and attractions to keep the whole family entertained. Hall Leys Park Surrounded by wooded hillsides and set on the River Derwent, Matlock is a lovely town to explore.  It has plenty of independent, quirky shops, particularly on Dale Road, as well as a wide choice of cafés, pubs and restaurants. Matlock Bath

Matlock Bath was developed as one of England’s first true tourist destinations.  It occupies a beautiful position in a limestone gorge on the River Derwent, and boasts attractive riverside gardens and steep wooded hillsides.
